Clash of the Champions – The Ramen Champion Tasting Competition 2015!

It’s an exciting time for ramen fans in this day and age in Singapore, especially with so many great restaurants around.

That’s right, it’s that time of the year again where Ramen Champion has its annual Tasting Competition to crown the newest, well, Ramen Champion!

We were generously invited to Bugis+ to catch this latest instalment of the Ramen Champion Tasting & Crowning ceremony, and it was abuzz with activity as always for the past 4 years.

Taiko2

After a rousing Taiko Drum performance, it was off to the introduction of the participating ramen brands!

Joining veterans Shodai Koji, Riki, Buta God, Menya Ryu and Menban Yamagishi Kazuo was newcomer to Bugis+, Tonkotsu Ikkyu.

Lots of esteemed guests were also present to judge and provide their feedback on the ramen this year, also including last year’s Ramen Champion Big Eater Challenge runner-up, Zermatt Neo.

With introductions over, it was down to my favourite part – the eating!

Being familiar with Ramen Champion, it was more of getting reacquainted with old friends for myself. I’ve always been a big fan of the sheer variety Ramen Champion brings to the ramen scene.

Menban Yamagishi Kazuo came in 2nd place

The winner was newcomer Tonkotsu Ikkyu which won over the hearts of the public with its creamy pork-based soup, tender chashu, and that special drop of spiciness to round it off perfectly! Menban Yamagishi Kazuo came in as runner-up with its scrumptious Tsukemen.

The media’s choice (and by that extent, my personal favourite) was Buta God with its trademark Sukiyaki Ramen packing dollops of meat, spice, and that irresistible half-boiled egg!

With all that great ramen, what better way to wrap the day up – than with seeing someone snarf down a huge bowl of ramen by himself!

ZermattFastEating

We were treated to Zermatt Neo wolfing down a large bowl of Riki’s humongous Chashumen, clocking at 4 minutes and 54 seconds.
